:dizzy:

You already answered the question of bar length, 3/8 pitch is standard, the gauge is purely optional and is best based on local preference, ie; are chains most commonly available in .058 gauge in your area or is .050 more popular?

For years I ran .058 because I had tons of the stuff available to me and I wasn`t running any bigger Stihls(which used to be .063) at the time but now I`m trying to use all .050 on bars up to 32" just for commonality.

I`ve been meaning to ask you because you commented a few times on the 575 handle bars, did you have something to do with their design? I like the slightly larger diameter but prefer more texture like the older Husky bars had. I do like the rear handle shape and size. The rubber insert feels good on bare hands until it falls off.

It's 3/8". Gauge needs to be the same as the bar. Look at the bar, it should be marked on there. If not, tell us the code stamped on the bar and brand.

What is marked on the existing chain?

I have seen a lot more .050 around here. Good point.
jokers, stuff like what you said is the type of feedback I have been lookin for.
I like the fatter front handle but did not think about the texture. The older handles were a little more tacky for gripping. The best of both worlds would be the new fatter handle with the old style rubber on it. C'mon Husky, you can do it.
So the rubber inserts are bad to fall off and get lost? If you can catch it in time, when they start to let go, I guess you should go ahead and take'm off reinstall with some good glue. Even though you Should not have to worry about that, huh.
Thanks

I asked the original question in case I ended up buying just the powerhead first. I was not sure of the best fit gauge and pitch of chain. But I did want a 24" bar length.

Why do so many people come on and ask cryptic questions, only filling in critical details after getting a couple of responses? If you didn't have a bar yet, why didn't you just say so in the first place?

Despite the impression that you could garner from reading threads about the 575 here, it is a good saw with decent power, more torque than a stock 372.

I agree, Husky could have done better with the texture of the handlebar grip and it seems regressive to me that they didn`t considering that they added the rubber to the rear handle, apparently to enhance grip.

If you buy PHO, the choice is entirely up to you. .050 gauge chain is available everywhere from dealers for every brand. As a counterpoint but because of the avaialbility of .050 chain, if you are very patient you can find pretty good deals on eBay for .058 bars and chain because it is less popular.

.050 and .058 gauge chain is made from the same base parts with the drive tangs being forged thinner on the .050. There is no performance difference although there is a theoretical wear advantage to the .058 on the sprocket because it has a .008 greater bearing surface. I think this is irrelevant since the greatest wear to the rim seems to be from the tie straps, which are identical.

If I already knew the answer, I would not be asking questions.
No wonder your first reply made no sense to me.

If an animal has a small head, does it also have a small brain?

Thanks all, 3/8 .050 is the answer I needed.

Merry Christmas
