While out cutting up some storm dammaged trees, I threw a chain. when i went to put it back on, there were some burrs the made the drivers not want to go back in the groove, so i grabbed a new chain. The sprocket seemed undammaged.
Should i try to fix up the drivers and keep running the chain, is should i just toss it?
On a positive note, the new Oregon chain didn't cut as well as the one i had filed! I guess i am doing better than i thought.

There are probably burrs on the drivers that you can file off so they dont tear the sides of your bar groove rails. Sometimes the drivers or the tie straps also get kinked and wont be free running after you file off the burrs. Then chain is toast unless you want to set in another short piece of chain.

At work I have a small die grinder with a rigid sanding disc to do this, 5 minutes saves a chain.

Try this it works. Generaly not all the drivers are fubared, but rather just peaned a bit, so install chain again and let it sag, like so you can fit your hand thru the bar and chain.
Then with the saw idling and on the ground, goose the throttle. This will take the burrs off and you will be back in business.
Severely hammered chains should be discarded.

If your chain drivers are burred, debur them with a file or a grinder or how ever. If you have bent drivers or teeth, buy a chain breaker and spinner and replace the bad ones. A paddle wheel sprocket will burr your drivers a lot more than a rim sprocket. Repairing a chain is simple if you have the right tools. This happens quite often when you throw off a race chain, and with all the time you have in one you try and fix it or shorten it.

Thanks guys, they aren't too badly messed up, so i will de-burr them and keep it as my #2 chain.

Thanks,

Rob
