I've been wanting to get a good all around saw for ground work. I like the Husky 357xpt and the sthil 360 pro or 290. I was camparing and came across the Echo CS-510 or the CS-5000 with a 20in bar. I think a 20in bar will do for up in the trees and on the stalks. Some times it might not be enough or will be to much, but it will give my MS-200t a break on big wood and my friends will apreciate me not bumbing off them. So since money is tight for now and I need to get some side jobs done. Do you all think that the Echo would be a good buy for now and save up for the Husky or sthil. Then use the Echo as a back up or extra saw. I've never realy used an Echo for a lot, but I hear they're pretty good for a cheaper saw. Any advice?

IMO Echos are not generally thought of as a "cheaper" saws.

But I think you need some thing in the 55 to 59cc range. What about the 55 Husky sold at Sears, or at Husky dealers, or the John Deere CS 56?

WHY in the world would you even THINK about buying an 029 for use in the trees?
For me, weight is critical. I'm a lil guy and do not enjoy lugging around heavy, slow saws in a tree. I like the 026 but if you need more power I guess an 036 or Husky 357 might work fine.

WHY in the world would you even THINK about buying an 029 for use in the trees?

I've used the sthil 360pro in a tree. I need somethin that can handle big wood along with small. the husky 357xp would be great. Just can't afford a new one right now. Sucks because I'm kinda in a bind. Maybe a used one will pop up some where. Or maybe you could help me.
Thanks,Bb

Any of those saws (except the 029) will pay for itself in one job. Quit being penny wise and pound foolish. If you can find a deal on a 357 then great. If not, just scrape together the cash or credit to get one. A man's tools of his trade are NOT the place to skimp. Skip the mickey D's for a couple months and buy the right tool for the job.
If you clear $500 on a decent removal in one day, the saw is paid for with one day's profit. And the saw will pay big dividends on the time saved for years to come. I'd say you can't afford to NOT buy one.

On a similar note, I cannot afford to have a half-azzed climbing saw. My new Echo 340 isn't working as well as my 4 year old Echo, so I have a modified 335XPT on order as we speak. I will put off other bills in order to get the proper tools to make a living. The climbing saw will pay for itself in less than a week.

I'm actually getting two saws. Dan is building a PP335 for me and Dennis is shipping me the Solo 633 he built a few months ago. Maybe I'll use the Solo for pruning and the Husky for removals! :p

If I can't keep a saw running, it gets replaced. No time for balky saws in a tree with 3 groundies staring at me waiting for brush to hit the ground.

You won't regret buying the Solo 633! I bought a used one off of Jeff Sikkema last November. Real good solid saw.

Brian, the 066 only came out once in a while...now that your getting 2 modded climbing saws does that mean you'll never use the 066? :D
