It has been about 6 months or so since I started milling. In an effort to keep my saw (660) running in top shape I was hoping to pick up some pointers from those more experienced.

It's a general question, I know.
What are some of the things you neglected to consider when you first started?

Thanks in advance.
Wes

Most importantly, keep your air filter clean, and the cylinder cooling fins/flywheel fins clean (helps disapate the heat quicker).

Like any tool, regular servicing saves alot of headaches, use only fresh fuel, change your fuel filter and lines on a regular basis, keep the saw as clean as possible as it will alert you to problems much quicker.

If you see fines getting past the air filter, that means the seal is leaking, a known problem on the 066/660. There's a fix, ask if you run into the problem (search is broken at the moment so I can't pull up the thread).

Dan,
did ya find a bar to run that ripping chain on yet?

Air filter and sharp chains. (most Important) Let the saw Idle for a min here and there on the long runs. Aux-oiler a big deal Imho!

For more in depth maintenance you can tear it down and replace the rings if you see them getting worn out.

Cheaper to do the rings before the piston, and then cylinder, if needed.

Air filter and sharp chains, good lube system are the first 27 things on the list .
