Hi There chainsaw & sawchain affininadoes,
I just got off the phone to Dawson City Yukon at the Klondike Centennial Society. They are having many events there on Feb.9
One of the events may interest you all. They have a chainsaw throwing contest which sounds like real fun. You just have to take the saw you love to hate the most and give it a big heave. The one who throws it the farthest wins. Talk about chainsaw elbow!
What saw would you guys use in this event?
I for one would use the yellow Mini Mac, which I have never wittnessed running before, however Walt knows of a secratary that can disassemble one and put it back together in short order.
To find out more about this event and to confirm the date, contact Kelly Miller at: [email protected]

John, that event is great...I have some pictures of it somewhere..I will have to dig them up..my sister lives there and my brother in law competes in some of the events....horseshoes at 40 below I think is his favorite...personally I think I would go with the electric husky weighing in at about 8 lbs...if that is considered a powersaw...lol

i would say my stihl 031av. it has been one problem after another i have not been able to get it running since i tried it out where i bought it for 10 bucks. and it's latest feat of magic is the recoil cup stripping out.

Mine would definitely be the 009 from Hell I sold a little while ago. Andrew I replaced not only the recoil but fuel lines, chain tensioner, and the muffler almost fell off and set the saw on fire!

I'm having horrible mental images of good mini XLs and Super 2s flying through the air.

Now, I have this old Wen electric that's given me nothing but grief...

I just threw my V8 saw 4.5 feet...is that a winner up there ??? I got to go to that show....of coarse those guys up there get to practice all year long owning those Huskey's

Franks Planks Buddy

Hi Robert, you would definately place first in the v8 Hotsaw anything goes throw at 4.5 ft. and break a record I might add, as no one has ever thrown a V8 beyond 1.2376 metres.
In the consumer model throw contestants get to choose a saw from either the H&H barrel (Husky& Homelite) or the S&S&S barrel (Stihl Solo,Shindaiwa), however the H&H usually win because they are tiner than the more ticker S&S&S.
To get the most out of your throw, choose a Husky with a long bar and full Western wrap, as it will tend to bounce like a pogo stick, especially if you light on fire the leaking fuel tank.
The electric saw throw is also a crowd pleaser, but one must reach the end of the 50ft. cord and unplug it from the generator.
Dennis, do you have any spare 220volt Huskies kicking around?
John

I'd like to join that contest!!

First would be my Husky 41, but I'd bring my Stihl 021 for the second round.

Hi There Fella's, how's it goin?
I was wondering if someone could help me out. I am having clutch problems. There sseems to be a bit of smoke coming from my saws.
John

i have one of those little buggers. that thing smoke so much from the last owner using too much oil in the gas i never have to worrk about bugs around me when i am cutting. although i usuauly have problems seeing the log when i aam cutting. i have to do something about that.

Hi Dennis, I believe I may be there, however, I just balanced the books and payed all my bills, so I think I have enough left to get me to Calgary. I will just go back to the woods for a bit to muster up the funds. I could be in the pink though if i sell these brandnew 088's for 1050.00 delivered.
John

tis a pity but the last time i gave my throwin saw a sling . i made sure i didnt look where it landed.think it mite have landed upside the lowes salesboys head ,but like i say ii didnt look to see for sure.

Write now i would be more interested in a computer throwing contest.

Is there a Guiness category for such? .......i mean just in case anybody might ask or want to know for any reason, just maybe...........

Saw Toss

A funny story comes to mind, my friend Doc Joe and where cutting some trees down at his get away in Pa Equinox is the town. He had just purchased about 150 acres on the Delaware. Prime trout area.We talked alot about saws and went out on his own and bought a Stihl 044. At that time I was switching to Husqvarna and I said "Whatever"

He paid a forester to come in and tag the trees he felt should be removed, some were for fuel wood others would be veneer grade. This is where my addiction got bigger for the chainsaw. We started out dropping the trees in the area his house was going to be built. We would be skidding them to an area with his John Deere 4800 tractor, the limbs would be burned come winter.joe had went out and bought all the gear for both of us chaps, helmets coats we looked like 2 city slickers in the timber.

I took a few days of of work and he closed is dental practice for a few days. Day one His saw wouldn't start we both tried to get that pig started nothing. He brought it back and the gent that sold it said he couldn't look at til the next day. He called and said pick it up.it would run but once he tried to cut it died and then wouldn't start. This bringing it back running not running went on for about 4 weeks. At that time I had a walkerized 372, in the mean time he bought a Husky 350.
Then one day he had the 044 running and he was going to drop a good size cherry he just started the back cut and it died. He grabbed the saw by the bar and flung it about 20 feet screaming. He then proceded to beat it on a rock for about 10 good wacks. It was destroyed he looked at me and said FU Keep your mouth shut. Joe sat there pissed and laughing, had a nice cigar and we never talked about that saw again.

He has since went out and bought a Jonsered 2159 and a 2171. If I had only a camera that day, I laughed so hard. He stil has the saw in his barn and next time I am up there I will try to remember to take a picture.

I would nominate all the mini McCullochs, mini Remingtons, Trail/Frontiers, and mini Lombards. I would nominate Homelites and Poulans, but once in a while one of those will run and cut wood.

But, the only thing I actually have on hand that would be good is an 017 Stihl.

Do they throw these things with the bars on, or just bare powerheads?
