Some time ago I ummed and ahhhed about getting a 66 powered Habegger chainsaw winch, I brought one for a grand and I have to say its been awesome. Its paid itself off a couple times over in time and backache saved.
Its a heavy sucker at 45kgs but with a tonne of pulling capacity its great for pulling logs out of gullys, rivers etc when youd otherwise be stuck cutting and humping it out in peices. My Tirfir is great and alot easier to pack around but the winch just HAULS. If you often find yourself working on steep ground alot and am taking out trees without a skidder.
One of the best things is that its got an open feed system which means you can put the cable in at any point so you dont have to feed in an end like a tirfir or roll and unroll a drum like a lewis.
Not a tool I will use alot but when I do its as good as having another couple guys on the job.
next thing, samson capstan winch! Any of you guys used them?
