Change hydraulic oil?

I have owned my husky 27 ton splitter for about 3 years now. I want to change the filter for the hydraulic oil and was wondering if it is necessary to change the oil itself also?

It would be a good thing to do. It depends on how much you use it too.
It might look fine but hydraulic oils are made to absorb a certain amount of moisture and they will start to break down over time. Moisture from the air gets in the resevoir from the heating and cooling cycles when running it, and just the level going up and down when extending and contracting a cylinder.

Would that slow down cycle times?

It would make it slow in colder weather.

Is there anyway to tell for sure if it needs changed?
