I was on a job yesterday in a tight spot when my hydraulics cut out. I thought I was dead in the water but then discover a branch from a shrub seized the hydraulic motor pulley, once I freed it I regained hydros and went back to work.

But that got me thinking, it would have sucked to get stuck there so I would like to stock the parts necessary to do a bush fix on the job. I am going to order the belt, but am having trouble locating a back up hydraulic motor.

Also I was having a tough time figuring out just how to change over everything. It looks like it would be a total PITA. As I see it I would have to take everything off, guards, clutch, and motor just to change the belt.

Has anyone done it that could shoot me some tips?

Thanks in advance!

Are you just looking on how to change out the belt or the pump as well? I used to have one and I have changed that belt and clutch as well. I ran one for about 600 hours and know a bit about them. and even still have some spare parts. Happy to help if I can.

How to change the belt would be my main concern. I foresee that breaking on the job and me being dead in the water. But it seems like everything has to come off, pump included to change the belt. Is that the case?

So I'm trying to remember as I don't have pictures. Do you have any pictures of the area? This is what I remember. You have to slack off the main belt that goes to the jack shaft. You do this by loosening the bolts that hold down the engine and sliding the engine towards the cutting wheel. There should be bolts holding the hydraulic pump. Slack off the tension on the belt that drives the pump. You are then going to have to remove the electric clutch. There is a bolt that retains it to the crankshaft. I forget if it is right or left hand thread on it. Pulling the clutch allows you to get that pump belt off and on the pulley behind the clutch. Take off the old and slip on the new. Do everything you just did in reverse. My machine was a 2004 so I am speaking based on how that one was. I don't know about later revisions. Let me know if makes sense or if you need anything else.

That seems like it totally makes sense. I just had the ah ha! moment of realizing the pulley has nothing on it towards the engine side of the machine so it will just slip off that way when the motor mounts are loosened. Thanks for the advice. I can totally visualize everything you said.
