Sure, blown valve... and I can walk on water too right? Its a 2 stroke, the piston IS the valve in the engine.unless that thing has a modified engine its a 2stroke chainsaw engine in that thing. I cant see a muffler on it, the top cover looks old and faded, the thing probably hasnt ever been cleaned up at all, Its junk in my book.

maybe he thought it had reeds. I get probably 1 saw a week with the symptoms of a busted reed valve says the customer. Saws that don't even have reeds :)

You know, I'm all for personal initiative and creativity. Heck, that's a hallmark of North Americans.

There's just something disgusting, though, about some leaker scrounging through the junk pile behind the local welding/implement repair/ small engine shop, hightailin' it to his buddies' dad's house to use the digital camera, and setting up a sale.

Harumph.

Honesty

At least the guy was honest enough to tell everyone that the saw was for parts only. I've seen some on Ebay that say,"bought it brand new and cut 3 truckloads of fire wood with it." And then you seen the pictures of the saw and its a worn out 66 magnum with a 36" Cannon Bar, an aftermarket air cleaner cover and a full wrap handle thats been taped at least a dozen times. Definately not a homeowner, firewood warrier. Thanks

Geez, it has potential! It looks to be a 026 pro, w/decomp.

Sure the upper plastic is faded out, but the air cleaner looks good. Put on a new jug and piston, a new top plastic, and you have a little screamer for less that $100. Not a bad deal really. I buy 'em like this all the time, rebuild em, and i would put any of my rebuilds against a factory fresh saw anyday! I might even be tempted to run my latest creation agains a Poulan Pro!

That saw will not be bought, fixed, and running for less that $100. If so let me know where you buy your parts. :blob2: The owner admiited he really did not know anything about it but he was told it had a scored piston and jug.

More than likely it has a bad muffler bearing or it could be the glow plug ain’t glowing, or it could just have a dead battery. In fact probably just needs oil, filter and a new pcv valve.

You guys must have found better pictures of it than I did on Ebay! That black hole in the center of the top cover is where the decomp should be, but the lame picture i have isnt clear enough to tell if its there or not. Basically, no hole, no decomp.

It really doesnt matter anyway. I can pick up an 026 pro jug and piston for $50. all day long. Other than that, i doubt that its hurt.

Same top cover with a plug in the cover hole instead of the grommet through which a decomp valve would protrude.

The bottom end may be okay. What concerns me is the appearance of the top cover. Thing looks like it was subjected to massive amounts of heat from underneath.

$50 for a jug and piston?

I know for a fact I can't come anywheres near that price, not even for aftermarket. I doubt if any of the rest of us can either. So if you have a line to cheap parts, then maybe you can buy that saw for $50, stick a little more in it, and be good to go. Assuming nothing else is really wrong with it, that is. The rest of us probably won't be able to do that.

I think where a lot of us are really coming from is that it is pretty hard to be confident about buying some classes of stuff on ebay. Chain saws are one of those classes. I know I have been burned....more than once.

I bought one that was advertized as "compression low, needs new ring"
When I got it I found that it was literally not worth repairing...Jug and piston both gone, main bearings noisy, rod big end loose, and it looked like somebody had used sand for bar oil, because the hole for the eccentric piston in the case was about .040 larger than the oil pump. The rewind still worked, anyway!
Of course I got my money back, but UPS doesn't give any rebates, do they?

maybe I'm still ticked off about that, but less than honest shysters on ebay are a particular pet peeve.

True, there are a lot of dis honest people on ebay. But mostly, all i have dealt with are honest. I was only totally ripped off once. Sent money, and the seller disapeared. For me, the good has out weighed the bad.

Saws are an Iffy category, but i have had pretty good luck in that department.

There is one that stands out that wasnt such a good buy. It was an o66 parts saw. No picture, so i should have known something was wrong.

It was parts allright, a crankcase, tank/handle....and nothing more.

So, after that, I never bought anythign without a pictures.

That user who sold it was (cpprhd) or something close to that.

As I said earlier let's see where it ends but as of now:

Saw $71
Saw Shipping estimate $15
Jug $50
Jug Shipping $10
Top Cover $25
Muffler Cover $17

Total as of now $188 I guess just a little over $100

The owner said the muffler is missing. From his pictures I believe it is just the cover so I have been conservative it my totals.

I really meant $100 in parts after the cost of the saw/shipping, etc. We are still at a little less than a $100.
$60 for jug/piston/shipping and all the other stuff i have laying around...mufflers, clutches, buffers, bar and chains, etc..

There are 4 large grey plastic totes in the corner of the garage..stuffed with stihl parts.
