Some of my friends have been telling me for some time to check out a place about 40 miles from my home. Saws, splitters, mowers, ATVs, truck caps-you need to check it out.

Well, I was in town to go to Fleet Farm anyway, so I stopped. WOW! Full line Stihl, Husky, and Dolmar dealer, all neatly arranged so I could fondle them all. They even had a Jonsered with an angled top bar, had to be a Husky handle. Had a hard time finding a salesman, not because they were ignoring me, but all 3 were with other customers-on a Wednesday afternoon.

Worst of all, I handled a Dolmar 7900. :blob2: Oh no-something felt right, the way the handles were spaced I think. The Dolmars just looked funky-cool. The price was right compared to the big Stihls and Huskys too. I have no need for a saw that big, but as my friends here know, need doesn't always enter into the picture. I also found out I have a logger friend down the road (about 15 miles) who is now a Dolmar dealer.

So I found 2 new places to drool and tempt me to spend money. I will be back to this place.

And worst of all, I am thinking about giving my friend a call and asking him to price a 7900 for me. I don't need one, but it's soooooooooo tempting! I gotta find a way to make some cash (they're big, and red)

Yep, sounds good. With all of those brands in one store I would go bonkers:dizzy: You don't have to read much to find out the 7900 is one bad mofo.

I know what you mean, wanting a tool you don't need.
I was at Home Depot and they were selling a Makita 6401 (same as the 7900 with a smaller piston bore) for $200, which seemed like a good deal even for a used saw.
Then I got to looking it over. The body was clean, clean, clean. Very low hours. I asked if he could pop off the muffler so I could take a look at the piston, which he did and I found out the piston and cylinder was all brand new. A renter ran straight gas and they had to fix it.
I bought it, and because I already have a bunch of saws I like, I didn't know how this new saw was going to fit in. Until I was digging a trench, and ran into a bunch of roots.
You should have seen me running the new saw like a trencher into the rocky soil, dirt flying everywhere. I can't say too much about how it cuts wood, but as a trencher, it's top notch!

I guess I'm lucky up here as far as saw shops. The closest dealers are Jonsered. I have two excellent Jonsered dealers within 1/2 hour drive.

The good reviews of the 7900 here made me curious to check it out. Not sure what I would do with it (probably not dig ditches:ices_rofl: ), but I've never heard anybody say their saw has too much power and wish they bought a little one.

I was thinking of a used big saw, but they are harder to find. My theory is a change in the logging practices, not many guys in the forest with saws if a processor can get at the wood, so not as many big saws being used and traded.

And I thought I was the only one that has done that. I sure wasn't going to be the first to admit it! :jester:

Does work good though doesn't it?

:D

:ices_rofl:

:buttkick:

Just get it over with and pull the trigger on the 7900. You know you won't sleep good till ya get it.

what is the name of the store.i am only about an hour away!

Not a new store-first time I've been in there, so new to me.

Fuller Sales in Antigo. If you're that close, I figured Fleet Farm might have given it away.

Where you at chisel?

I don't know much about the Johnnys, except most of the new ones are like Huskys. Good saws though, If you have a good dealer's see if you can use a demo. I would not mind having a 7900 myself and would choose it over any of the Johnnys:D

You're right, the current Jonsered line is pretty much a cleaned up, less confusing Husky line up.

It may be a regional thing, I though I was going to get drummed out of the family when I bought my first Stihl. Dad and two uncles-part time in the woods, all ran Johnnys, other uncle-full time logger, only Johnnys. Some of those old "true" Jonsereds are still very nice saws.

I sure wouldn't mind a red 2171, but the price difference with Dolmar is substantial.

Yo, Mike,

Now get the 7900 jug kit for $190......and you'll not find much use for your 046 anymore.

Or send it to me....;)
