I have used the powdered stuff you can buy at home depot and walmart. I mixed it with d fuel and gas to get any results vrs the hot water that is in the directions. It works, but you could dig it out faster. I wouldn't try it again...

I understand there is a liquid heavy duty type, but never tried it.

Blow it up... its more fun anyway :p

I like 1 quart of gas, and a match. or the gunpowder, C4, or whatever is at hand. its all fun when things burn, blow up, or go into the atmosphere.

What if you have a stump you want to kill and don't care about getting out? There is one near a leech field of mine and the suckers keep coming back so I assume the roots are still growing. I was thinking about drilling a few holes in it and putting something toxic in it.

Just dig it out, or soak it in something flammable, and set it ablaze.

screw getting into which fuel burns better, fire is fire. I just like to sit back and enjoy it in the night air. relax some if you know what I mean.

Regular strength roundup works on fresh cuts. Cut the shoots and spray it on. Some types of trees have connected root systems and killing one kills all. The ones I know that have this are eucalyptus and aspens. There are more, I don't know at this point. Perhaps someone could enlighten me?

Killing a stump

The stump rotting stuff you are talking about is KNO3, or potassium nitrate. A salt and heavy oxidizer. It is also the main ingredient in gunpowder. Trying to kill live trees or stumps with KNO3 will have marginal results.

Pounding a few copper nails in it will kill it. Copper sulfate, usually used for killing algae in ponds, sprinkled on the ground will kill it. Drilling a few holes in it 5"-6" deep and dumping Roundup in them should work well too. Cover or cork the holes so the rain doesn't wash it out. I believe it's Ortho that makes something called Groundclear, a total vegetation killer. I use Barefoot on my driveway and it keeps the weeds and grass clear for a year.

Your best bet will probably be to visit Home Depot and buy the total vegetation killer. I had to spray the sprouts on my cherry tree for almost a year before they stopped popping up. Just visit them once a month with a spray bottle and soak the area of the sprout. :)

Potassium nitrate will speed decay but it still takes years. It will also enhance flammability of the stump.-Still.... burning seldom works well simply because heat rises and oxygen levels underground are too low for good combustion. Addititionally, soil moisture is wicked into the stump making it hard to ignite. Triclopyr is a very effective stump killer when applied to a freshly cut stump-It is available over the counter as Ortho Brush-B-Gon or Fertilome Brush Killer as well as other brands-Use"full strength" from the consumer grade bottle (about 8% concentration). There is a reason I own a stump grinder-That is the most effective way to eliminate stumps.

Tordon is the best stump killer. It will kill it completely including roots and suckers. As for quick decay I do not know. That has never been an issue to concearn me.

Best thing is to drill multiple holes in it and pour diesel down in them and light it up. Once it has been set a blaze a couple of times it will dry out quickly and then eventually you can fully burn it out.

Make a loggers light of it if you know it is supposed to go, really big stumps burn for a week, but who cares? :Eye:

Oh not a method to test in forrest perhaps ;)
