local tree guy dropped me so off some wood . some nice cherry and something ive never seen before . thick bark , greenish color , very heavy ,cuts hard , splits easy .im sure one of you can tell me what it is .

that's locust, Ed,,just a diff variety...ive cut the same stuff here....

100% black locust. Did a black locust job recently and found a heart shaped log. Made this with epoxy for the fiancé out of it.

Once dry, it will be fine for firewood. I burned some ornamental cherry from a co-worker some years back. I noticed it was much more fragrant than the wild black cherry around this area.

Cherry is smoker wood just like most any fruit tree wood.
