Totally agree Zogger.
The 19 th century was the Brittish Empire, The 20 th century was the USA and now the 21 st century is the Dragon ( China )
Well before that was probably from the Vikings up to the Dutch, Portugees , Spaniards etc. Most colonys / countrys have had there run and now it is the Chinese. Like it or lump it. they aint going away.
Nobody complains when they can buy aftermarket parts at a fraction of the cost of OEM .
JUST LOOK ON THIS SITE HOW MANY RUN BIG BORE, AFTERMARKET P/C ETC

Wish Gmax would chime in with a detailed report of his experience with the 070 clone. I'd like to know if it works good as a saw as opposed to it's cosmetics. Really would like to know if it can be turned into a good tool.

After a few hours use this is what had to be replaced/repaired
Carby
The starter
Oil pump
Clutch
fix the gap between the air filter box and carby
choke linkage didn't engage

The actual engine seems ok, just everything that bolts on around it is not good.

I would be looking at other saws for milling.

MCW,

Did you disconnect the rev limiter? Lean out the bottom and top after break-in? Just curious where the underlying problem is besides cosmetics.

Thanks,

Stu

See gmax's reply above. He spent a lot of time and replaced a lot of parts to get this thing even remotely running OK. I wouldn't have been able to do it. He's a gun on fixing old saws.
I agree with what he said 110%.

I also don't have a big issue with companies copying older model saws no longer available. People buy them simply for the price and would rarely be in the market for a new model equivalent Stihl anyway.

What a pity...does sound like a gamble at best :(

The 070 sure has pretty lines...wish the cloners (Chinese) would clean up their act and build a better product.

...and the 22nd century will be all Walmart.

With your avitar picture I am sure you would fit right in at Walmart Rokon LOL :hmm3grin2orange:
I have seen heaps of the Walmartian emails. Never stops to leave you in awe at them.
I am still pissin myself now thinking of them. God help us in the 22 nd century then.

In all honesty apart from a bit of a nostalgia they really are a slug of a saw, Chinese copy or not.
I respect a lot of the old saws but many of them are just low revving, slow cutting lead weights. I also think a number of people assume that a slower revving saw must produce more torque which is more often than not far from the truth. Apart from some of the Macs, Solos etc the modern saws leave the older saws for dead in the cut, even with ultra long bars.

Ya hit that one about right and add most of the 090s to that. The mistaken belief that 137cc make it
a real blaster is all too common. I found them not only slow and heavy, but awkward, not something I would care to drag around a hillside.

Well just to upset my ol mate Randy i'm startin' now to build a chinga ding 090 with parts from China but it will have a geniune piston barrel assy
and a few other things added to make it go all will be new parts gee i couldn't afford to shop with Stihl there unrealistic price wise yesterday when i
called into my old mates shop to price the parts .............. well we wont go there .....................

So, why is a 070 lacking in power? Why would the 090 be lacking power...thought I read somewhere a stock 090 put out 13hp, no?
