First off I know the tool i am asking questions about repairing is toy sized but it fit my budget and fills my needs. This thing is a 9 hp cub cadet chipper shredder i purchased to run wood splits through to produce uniform sized wood chips. Now i got this thing used from a crazy old man who claimed to have used it for chipping brush while clearing his property. I got this thing home and opened it up and realized it had the original blades so i purchased a good blade kit...now it will eat what I feed it but it still has a bouncing cut and fails to self feed. I pulled the feed chute to inspect the anvil because the genius who designed this torture device welded it to the end of the feed chute. I found the leading edge of the anvil is worn down in the most important section that needs to be square. I can go about this two ways, weld a new face on the end of the existing anvil then clean it up to be square or I have some S7 steel plate the same thickness I can make a new anvil from and jump though hoops cutting the original off the bottom of the feed tube. This thing was designed to throw away the whole chute to replace the anvil and nothing would make me happier than to not pay 160 bucks for a bad design over and over. What would you do?

Well i jumped in feet first on this today by deciding to replace the anvil using the S7 steel..the welds holding the original anvil on were harder than the soft steel they used. links are to pictures of today's project, I made it reversible for future serviceability and utilized carriage bolts for low clearance in the feed chute. 4 hrs from start to finish including lunch and reinstallation on the machine. Now I just need to find a load of cedar locally to run through it :D

i stood way back trying out blades I ordered direct from china, I ran about 200lbs of yellow pine splits through them. I learned my safety is NOT worth cheaping out on although I might try to get a couple sets of custom blades made using more of that us made S7 steel if i can find more.

Yikes!

I always try to get OEM whenever I get parts for my equipment. More expensive at times but its a cheap insurance.
