Home owner ready to move up from my 11hp 3" capacity single knife side-feed Brush Master CH3.
Looking to buy something a little better next summer, and have been browsing the manufacturer sites looking at 4-5-6 inch capacity machines. Maybe 15 to 20 hp, somewhere in there. Have figured out that 2 knives is better than one, and reversible knives even better. Power feed would be awesome, but probably found only on the big commercial machines? And of course more horsepower is a no-brainer. My second question is whether a drum face feed is inherently better than the side feed that all the home-owner grade machines have? I do not like the way the side feed cuts at an angle. I would think that a straight end cut would be better ??

Before I bought my Morbark I had a MTD 5hp chipper, and to be honest it worked really well but it was like you said that angle feed. I was looking at MechMaxx before I bought my current chipper. Maybe they are worth a shot.

Your Mobark is a straight head-on feed into the face of a drum, is that correct? In your experience do you think the drum feed works a lot better than the side feed? Or maybe just wishful thinking on my part because I'm disappointed with the side feed.
