I am looking to buy a used comercial chipper, but I have very little knowlege about them. My Question is: What it a reliable chipper that I can easily access parts and do some of the maintenece myself? Something that is durable and that is reliable. Easy to replace blades and parts. Add any other info that you might recomend.

Thanks
-Brian

The cheapest, basic, most reliable chipper you can get (IMO) are the Asplundh whisper chippers. (or the Chipmores, Altecs etc) Those machines are so simple and basic that there isn't a whole lot to go wrong with them. For a machine in good shape you could look to spend from $2,000 to $4,000.

How much money are you talking?

Add to that question:

What size debris do you regularly plan to run through it - 3", 6", 12", bigger?

Will the debris be relatively soft straight branches such as poplar or cottonwood branches or really tangly stuff like locust, ash, apple...?

Is this going to be owner or employee operated and do you have workman's comp insurance? Seriously!

Do you want to shove it in and walk away or will you have someone monitoring the chipper at all times?

What will you be pulling it with? (what is the max weight machine your pulling truck can handle)?

All of these have to be answered for us to give you proper advice... :dizzy:

I got a Morbark 200 and I have never regretted it for a second. They can overnight you replacement parts, and my chipper, 1989 model, will eat a 12" poplar or about a 9" maple branch. If it fits through the rollers, it's chips baby!! I paid 7000 for it, got it used from Morbark, and the guy I dealt with was a straight shooter. He even gave me a free gallon of paint to repaint it with. My foreman used to be a Trees inc guy, and he says it's ten times better than a whisper chipper. My $.02

cost and size

I am looking for somthing under $10,000. The size of wood, I guess would be average. I would like to chip 10 inch. I am in a area of hardwoods: maple, several oak species, locust, hickory, ect. I will probally be hauling it with a GMC 7500 w bucket and dump bed. Let me know anymore info.

-Thanks
