Hey guys I am having some problems with my old Chipmor Chipper. It is shredding instead of chipping. I thought it was because the clearance between the cutting blades and the cutter bar was too wide, but I don't think it is. I took the shoot off today and got in there to the cutters and the clearance seems to be good, at least they are set to what the guy I bought it off of said they should be set at. I have them set to the thickness of a nickel. Is that right? If that is right why is it not chipping?

You are shreddding long strands because your thickness from the cutter blades to the lower plate is incorrect. I had the same problem with my Fitchburg chipper. I now have it set at .010 and it chips everything into small chips. I do mean small. I no longer have 4 - 8 foot stringers when chipping fresh brush. I set my blades off the front cutter block. Then I set the lower plate to about .030. Hope this helps you out.

For the company Bandit chipper I set the anvil at 1/16". I adjust it when it reaches 1/8". The anvil has to be ground square and the exact width along its length. That width can change quickly if the wood is dirty. You really have to know your machine.

my morbark i set tight , like a buisness card thick. sharp anvil, sharp knives . chips great till your groundies start useing it like a rock crusher.
