My chipper (old chuck and duck ) keeps choking on chips and I have a couple ideas that I need input from you fellas on to fix the problem. First, the obvious, I have sharp knives in now but I do not know what would be the ideal setting for the anvil. I also do not know when and if I need to have the edge dressed on the anvil. I have been given the recommendation to bring the anvil up to where it is just touching the knives evenly and then back it off. She is belt driven off of the 300 ci Ford straight 6 and only gets the small stuff ( 4" and under ) Thanks-Kevin

Anvil should be square and sharp. not rounded off.
Set clearance to hacksaw blade, 1/32".
Keep the revs up!
Make sure there are no obstructions in the chute, bends, daggy weld etc.
hope this helps.

I adjusted the anvil so the cutterhead is taking smaller bites and she is working great now! I just eyeballed the width but next time I check the adjustment I will use the hacksaw trick! Thanks!

Vermeer has a door on the underside of the chute. I have never had to use it in the 4 years I had this chipper. The only chipper that plugged the chute was a vremeer 1000xl that I rented while mine was in the shop. Not fun the chute had to be removed from the machine to clear. It was packed tighter than a :jawdrop:
