Cleaning a plastic fuel tank

I have recently acquired a Shindaiwa 488 that contained some old fuel, sludge, pond water, and God knows what else. But, I was wondering what the best solvent is to remove the residual crud? Brake Parts cleaner (I'm nervous about melting the plastic tank), Carb Cleaner, Parts Cleaner Solvent, etc?

Keep sloshin gas

Fresh gas is a great solvent. Fill, slosh, repeat. Non-Chlorinated brake cleaner should not hurt a plastic fuel tank.

DO NOT USE CARB CLEANER!!

Use some fresh gas, as it will do a fine job. You can use brake cleaner as well w/o worry.

Just my 2¢ but removed the tank and soak in 100% degreaser until it comes clean,rinse and dry.

Awesome makes good stuff.castoral super clean,simple green etc.

Grab a scoop of laundry detergent, mix it with a little water and let it set. It will loosen and remove about anything.

put a hand full of nuts washers ect inside and a couple cups of gas and shake shake shake. I have done this a bunch of times for different things works well is safe and cheap too !
