I'm 62 and getting faster and better all the time. I know I don't have a fair playing field with you young bucks in competition. On the job maybe.:D

Any knowledge of such competitions?

Jack

I think they do have a senior climb event. I remember making t-shirts for an event last year for the Penn-Del chapter (I could be mistaken).

I did a really quick google search, and only found a page that mentions someone volunteering for a senior climb, but no info about it.

Here is the page. Read Robert Gallant's bio

Good Golly, they're coming at us from both directions now, mb!

Last year the midatlantic chapter tried to have a 40+ but it didn't happen; I guess not enough players. I looked for a ladder-using category, then passed. jk why don't you tell them, www.macisa.org, you want to enter next time? Or tell the PennDel.

After watching the so. chap tcc in a gutted little willow oak, I thought training for next year, but I've got a ways to go...

I am with the Pen Del and I have heard about there going to be a seniors event. I am not sure if it is this year. I know we didn't have one last year. This competition is May 15 just around the corner. It is going to be held at some sort of school for the blind located on Roberts road just down the road from Will Smiths house. I will check on the seniors climb for this year.

I tried to promote that in MN after the TCC last fall. Everyone thought it was a good idea until I reminded them that most of the committee and judges would be competing so the weight would fall on their shoulders.

This is still a good idea. Keep the energy going.

Tom

I sent email to Penn-Del asking about senior competitions. Thanks, and yes this might be good to promote for many reasons.

Listen-up, everything that has a sparkel and works inspite of what others say came from a old man. Here I set wearing my new Petzl helmet talking at you.

40's isn't old, there has to be a climb competition for over 55 and up.

The qualification has to be a sound demonstartion of NEW techniques and NEW advances in equipment. This would be a part of the score. Don't want to be even near any one who is using something from when they had there hay day kinda stuff.

If I can't find a isa solution to this, I'll just challenge anyone over 55 and see if we can get some booking.

Any other ideas?

Mb, didn't you read this part...I'm not sure you qualify.. Lol ;)
That dinosaur of a hitch doesn't quite meet the new tech. qualification.

... maybe loosing thread and ...,

... OK, I did try the VT today and used a Pantine. Whoopie, hugh, and thruth is I'm not to sure the VT is a good choice over the Blakes hitch. I'll keep working with it like suggested.

MB, this is a good time to give the 'older' guys here a little 'rub', ..., old is smart not stiff. Let's shake some stuff out here.

Actually, it already is. ;)

At ISASC TCC one guy used frictionsaver, redirects etc and got xtra points for that. re gizmoes, I think mb and me will have to have a dino class tcc. And jack I'm a little shy of 55 so I'm out of your chrono league... I'm sure you can find some takers tho.

BE sure to let me know if this 55 and over thing goes. I entered my first competition at age 47 and took 4th, the next year I took 3 out of 20 in Prairie Provinces Chapter competition. I used the taut line and my monkey fist to enter the tree and advance the crotches. Also double crotched with the tail of the rope on several occasions. Finished the old style work climb with 4 minutes to spare and only lost points for not hitting the top crotch on the first try and a couple of other small things. Lost out to the kids on the speed climb and footlocking.

I try all the new things that I hear mentioned on AS and have incorporated some of them. In class I show the students all the newest things. For the basicson the job, I stick to what is safe, familiar and proven over the past 37 years of climbing.

57 is still just a kid. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up!!!!

I agree w/ tom, the age should be lower, maybe 45 or 50. I mean where are they sopposed to compete otherwise... ;)

I'm humbled, of course, all this time I've been listening to the great insightful thinking here and of course it could only have been from long time experience.

Wow, now that I know, and that it is aparent that I'm completly out classed by you guys, I'll have to watch my personal whims to compete.

I will still support a senior competition, and for it to be edifying for the industry. :blob2:

And perhaps I'll have to go hang out in lawn care untill I'm really up to my fantasy.

Best,
Jack
