Hello,

I am looking at buying a new climbing saddle but do not have any dealers close where I could look at them and try them on. First off I am a big guy 40" waist. I have been using the same leather saddle for the past 15 years, so I would like to get something lightweight. Comfort is a priority. any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you are in MD, you can't be that far from a Vermeer store. There are other Arborists stores as well in the mid Atlantic region. There are too many variations in body shape, FAT distribution, climbing styles, leg shape, etc, to even try suggesting what would feel comfortable on you. Take the time, make the trip, and DON'T buy one without hanging in it first. Second thing I suggest... stick with the comfort idea, don't fret the price.
I love my saddle, can hang in it all day and still be smiling.

I'm getting older and climbing is tougher. Of the two saddles I have I like the New Tribe over the Buckingham. I'm out of town right now so I'll have to wait to tell you more about them model wise. The true test for me was working a day in the Buckingham and then the next day in the New Tribe, but even then it wasn't a big issue, just a bit more mobility or a bit easier to access a biner or some such. I'm believing the better measuring stick is the categories or quality level. You spend the money and you buy the quality or you don't spend the money and lose a little each step down from the top lines til you get to the bottom and end up working hard instead of working smart.
Hope this helps
Steve

buy a new tribe, they are second to almost none in comfort. They are priced well too.

I say second to almost none because Ive never climbed a petzl, but If you get a new tribe I'm pretty sure you will like it. they dont pinch or have funky pressure loads on the legs. The make good work saddle as well as rec saddles. You can be in a tree all day with a new tribe and be comfortable. Go to treestuff.com they have most of the new tribe saddles on the site.
