I want to start teching myself to climb, but don't want to invest huge money in a saddle not knowing if I like climbing as much as I think I will, any advice on where to pick something up?? or does someone on here have something decent they wouldn't mind parting with, I just can't see spending over 100 to try something for the first time
thanks
Ryan

Hello Treehead,
I too am a novice tree climber. Find it to be fun and challanging.
One thing you are going to learn from this site is NEVER BUY USED SAFTY EQUIPTMENT.
If you still want too I seen some on ebay in the forstry section.

Well the petzel navajo is a good saddle and there is a company out of missouri that you can order it for $75. I'll try to dig up the site for you and send it your way.

excellent advice

I kind of figured that about the used stuff, and thanks for the advice on the Petzl, I'm gonna see if I can find one, also does anyone know of a store in MA that sells stuff like this??

There's Cleaves in Needham and Shelter Tree down in Attleboro. George down at Shelter might even have a loaner. Sherril's website is pretty good in that I think they carry just about every brand and style.

I wouldnt suggest buying used gear.
I used to climb out of the Petzl. Little to no padding but a nice saddle.

As for the stores in MA, try those two but there is also a new store opening. It is in Essex MA right off rte 22 at 7 Scotts Way. It is called Mayer Powersports, a division of Mayer Tree Service. We will be carrying a full line of Stihl products and full line of Arborist supplies. The showroom is 50% done and we can order anything...just dont have it in stock yet.

Good luck!
