does anyone have any experience climbing yellow locust. i got a job coming up and am curious about it. my cousin used to help me on some jobs and i always let him climb and i done the rigghing and ground work. but once he had to climb a dead locust tree and he hardly made it up, his gaffs were sharp, but he said the tree was just so hard he couldnt get them to stick in good without risking cutting out. this tree i am fixing to take on, isnt massive but the majority of the work will be 25-35 ft off the ground, the rest i will drop from the ground. mainlyh taking the limbs out. it is a live locust tree but i am still cautious after what he said. any tips, suggestions?

We work on locust all the time, they are harder but still stick. Any petrified tree is going to be a pain, sharpen them up and stab them in.

Set your line first that way if you do gaff out it's no big deal. Try to catch some limbs and climb without having to use your gaffs.
