I have a 22,000 btu Monitor thru the wall kerosene vented heater in my 26' x 30' building. It uses a dual stage pipe that uses outside air to run the furnace. I have an internal tank in it that requires filling. I have been burning the low Sulphur fuel in it since it came out.Monitor is no longer in business. I believe Toyo still makes one similar. I have been using this style of heater since 1993.Quite the warmup.
Gonna be breaking out the shorts and hoodies.
I had the upper portion of the barn up to 62 degrees, I was down to a t-shirt working on the bay door. It's probably 20 degrees out there now, 1 degree outside.
What do you guys have in your shops(or where you work) for heaters
Using a 30-70 BTU propane construction type heater, I managed to burn thru about half a 100lb tank over 2/3 days. I did have it on low overnight, but I plan on running something all the time to keep it at 50 during the winter months. I'm considering a radiant tube setup, I already have a furnace I could set up in there too. I wouldn't mind having a wood stove if a deal pops up to help lower the costs of propane. Propane is like $4 something a gallon here just filling the 100lb tank, I think it's just over $2(maybe 2.30) to fill a larger tank, which I could get/do, and probably will.

Lowest I've paid is $0.90 a gallon, the highest was $6.89. We're very dependent on how much the grain needs to be dried. Wet fall = higher propane, warm dry fall = cheaper propane. Obviously there's more to it than that but generally that's been the case. We also fill at least 500 gallons at a time. That keeps the cost per gallon down.
Was 2* here this morning, and -4* up at the cabin with a doe on the trail camera.
Thankful I have natural gas for heat down here, and the cabin is 100% real wood heat! Keeps my energy costs low.

The electric itself isn’t all that expensive it’s the delivery charge . And the more you use the higher the delivery charge
Yes, my delivery charges for both electric and natural gas far exceed my use charge ... rather perplexing! Seems like it is designed to limit what you can save by going with alternative providers of energy (that they are required to offer). Seems like everything gets over-regulated, then everything becomes a scam!
The electric company charges to deliver it? We have a meter charge, that's like $20 here per meter. I currently have two, but I bought the wire to run from the barn to the house to eliminate the meter on the house. Should pay for the wire after like 6yrs lol.
Hopefully that changes after yesterday, he signed a ton of executive orders. One was for the energy emergency, iirc that's how it was framed/titled.

How much fuel do you use in a yr, do you keep that area at a set temp 24/7, how well is it insulated.

I have attached a recent copy of my NYSEG utility bill. Not complaining about the amount, but it has more stupid charges than Carter has little pills!
Same boat with Central Hudson. I use very little electric and no NG. Typically 2/3rds to 3/4ths of my bill is the basic charge, delivery charges and tax. The electricity itself is the cheap part!

getting a knock off is more a convince vs cost thing. I want to get a mini split for out there, but it's not in the cards for a while.That makes sense since you're pulling cars in and out on a normal basis. I would think most times I was going to pull something in it would be one of three scenarios. One it would go on the lift, and would be a bit higher where it would get warmed a bit quicker with radiant heat and the air up there should be a bit warmer. Two it was getting pulled in to work on it real quick, and we were just needing it out of the weather. Three would be it's coming in, but can wait a bit so it will be warmed up by the time we get to it.
For the tractors they would just go out to work outside a bit, then come back in for quite a while, so not a big deal.
Would have been nice to have natural gas here. Every street that is connected to ours, and the end of it has it, and our tree isn't but maybe 1.5 miles long. That being said, I wouldn't know any of you fine fellers if we had natural gas

Your propane is cheap compared to here, that would certainly be a factor to consider, maybe Trumps policies will get it down a bit.
Yeah, it's only for temporary. I have an actual furnace that I'll probably install, already bought it for $100 bucks last summer, it's a high-efficiency power vent style. But I'm not sure it's the best route or one source would be a good idea. The good thing is we have a great power company that's local (literally 1.25 miles NNW from here as the crow flies), and we don't often have outages, so I shouldn't need a wood stove. I've considered an electric water heater set-up for the 12x24 saw shop area, be nice not to have any penetrations thru the walls or the ceiling. I have the wainscoting on the barn, so if I was to install a small mini-split in that area I could go thru down low. It would be sweet to have AC in there. I'd also want at least one good sized electric baseboard heater to use if it was too cold for the mini to work.

One of those would work for my 12x24 shop, but I don't want to support the CCP and I don't want to make the holes in the walls ceiling if I don't have to. The semi I drive has one for the bunk heater, I run it whenever it's cold out, then I only need a little added heat from the trucks heater. It's nice not to have the fan blowing air in you eyes and drying them out, or hot air on the windshield to heat it up and make the snow stick to it, even though I do have heated wipers(hate to use wipers unless I have to). One nice things about those little heaters, is you can get them with a controller. It would be nice to just click the temp up from the house(if it reached), or from the car when you pull in from work.
42 isn't terrible, I'm shooting for 50, then being able to warm it up a bit more if I'm out there.
The propane companies here all give me, and others I've talked to, a hard time about filling the 24 gallon/ 100lb tanks. I'm almost as big of a fan of propane companies as I am rust or Chyna.

Is electric pretty expensive there, ours isn't bad compared to the bigger companies in MI. That being said, I hate paying for it.

A face usually lasts me a three weeks, two weeks and I was scratching my head wondering where it all went.
That’s why I restocked the wood up near the house prior to the last storm. Didn’t want to get caught without enough wood for the season.
But the snow wasn’t as deep as I was worried about and can still get the truck from wood pile to house.
But…. We are expecting another storm on Monday

We booked this week long ago for some time in FL. It has turned into a weeklong joke: Snowmobile FL! Snowshoe the beach! All the bridges are closed and we are on an island. It was predicted, so we were prepared, no big deal. But 6-8" of snow in Florida is unusual. Blowin and snowin all afternoon. Heavy enough for a while we could not see the huge hotels across the road. Hilarious! The last movie (4245) is looking right at the beach ball water tower, but it is invisible because of the intense snow. On the 2018 trip to Ireland in March, we got stuck in the biggest blizzard they's had in decades. (4") so this is the American version of that. All time record snowfall. Biloxi,MS reportedly will have a foot by morning!
