I had met this fellow several times at the local meat market. We both raised sheep and always had nice discussions about them. Very nice Mennonite man. From what I was told by my other Mennonite neighbors they were pulling a downed tree with their tractor and that tree hit another dead standing tree causing it to snap off and fall on him.

I hate to say it, but farmers are so self efficient and have so much big equipment sometimes they just miss stuff a pro wouldn't. In Frederick County, over the last 3-4 years, we lost two farmers to roll overs in the spring plowing on slopes. The down hill tire sunk in and over they went. Lost another one skidding saw logs. He was skidding through the woods and the log caught on a big root and the tractor flipped backwards. With all of the dead Ash it's the first thing I look for now. Actually, I haven't taken an Ash down in two years. They are at the point the root system is gone and they will tip over at the slightest touch. Prayers for your friend Steve.
