I recently put my foot in my mouth. I referred to CODIT(compartmentalization of decay in trees) as the code of defense in trees. I've read A New Tree Biology, and some twelve years ago I requested literature from Shigo and Trees. I could have sworn that in one pamphlet I recieved they referred to CODIT as the Code of Defense in trees. Has anyone ever heard this?

It's more a political statement than a technical one. Less useful for understanding but more punchy. I wouldn't doubt that Shigo used it to make a point somehow.
