After a long hiatus I'll be climbing my first tree since jan 2008 this weekend.
I had some medical issues and after recovery I just did not feel I was ready to start climbing again.

Not sure what to expect so I'm getting back by doing 4 pine trees which should be a peice of cake. Only one needs rope work to avoid a house.

Anyway, I am both anxious and nervous and part of me feels like the nervousness is silly.

The great news is that I decided to treat myself to a brand spankin new
200T! Whooo hoo!

I noticed I hadn't seen you around in quite awhile. Welcome back.

I had to take a hiatus over some medical issues a few years back as well. Don't worry, you'll be back at the top of your game in no time. Biggest hurdle is getting back into physical shape if you've let yourself go soft. It's not like you forget what you have learned and know. Just like riding a bike.

Best of luck!

Once you rigged up in the tree it will all flow back like a dream. That new 200T should help. Like TreeMd suggested, the bigger issue might be getting back into tree shape. It might take a few days to a week to get your tree legs back under you and your upper body in synch.

I've been going through the same thing myself, having taken most of the last year and a half off due to family matters. But I've done some freebies for friends and a couple of money jobs periodically, and it never ceases to amaze me, how quickly it all comes back once you're off the ground. Starting off with some simpler stuff is smart. I'm sure you'll be swinging around in big willow and water oaks before you can say quercus phellos and quercus nigra...

Yep, the muscles are gonna hate me! Gained about 15 pounds too.

Thanks!

Happens every winter here.

You will do fine man, good luck!

I find one thing that helps alot after prolonged lapses from actually doing the work is just telling yourself: "I'm not gonna die today". works well I find ... seriously! Doesnt matter how big or small the tree "I'm not gonna die today".

Works every day come to think of it!

Keeps it real for me!

My knee just recovered and I hear ya about getting soft! It was way too many chocolate chip cookies for me! The wife says to me " You won't need to climb the tree will just fall over in fearful anticipation." Funny. Ha Ha. It will be 12 yrs this June.

Glad to hear you are back! Stay safe!

Tomorrow is the big day my friend.

I did pick up the new saw today. Came with a tiny 12 inch bar so I put an old 16 on her for tomorrow. Saved 30 bucks on the saw with the shorter bar and since I had a couple of 16's it works out good.

for what a 200t i like the smaller bar on everything i like a 16 on a 361 24 on 660 i like to really use the power as much as possible i like a fast chain

Well things went very well. Saturday was stormy so I waited until Sunday. Same thing until mid afternoon on Sunday so I only got to get three down before closing shop. I'll do the other two today then we have another one we have to go quote. This one is a medium sized white oak.

I was a bit rusty but thankfully these were easy drops. No ropes, just bombs away and drop the tops. The new saw runs great! Broke out the old one on the last tree just to run it a while.

I'm not nearly as sore as I expected. Tight more than anything in my arms. Legs are good to go. The worse of it is a bit of a saddle rash.

Anyway, it felt good to be back in a tree. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed taking in the view from the tops. Good day, no incidents, mild temperatures, and some cash in the pockets :)
