great find. That is why you will stop there in the future but won't find many more scores like that one.
I go to a renavation store every few months and they will have a great find once in awhile.

Thanks for posting my pic, still have to figure out how to to that. It almost looked like they didn't even make a hinge, just cut it half way and pulled it over. Ripped off some of the bark and sap wood but that's o k , it gets cut off anyways.

They didn't bring the crotches into the compst place? Too bad....those would have been the first in the truck.

You should get some nice boards from those!

Brook,

Nice find on that walnut. I wish we had something like that around here where people could go and mill wood coming from our city. Please post some pictures of what you get milled. We all love seeing Black Walnut.

nice score. here in town the city takes all the street trees to a waste reduction facility. i'll post some pics sometime...it's like a chainsaw millers paradise. only problem is they won't let anyone touch em. supposedly because of emerald ash borer in that they don't want people moving potentially infected logs around. trust me i've asked many times:)
anyways, i'm jealous!

Don't worry guys I got the crotch to, it wasn't in the picture. I already sold it to a chainsaw carver, who is always looking for b walnut crotches that still have some leader left on them. He carves eagles out of them. :eek:uttahere2:

Watch out for metal

Looks like a couple of those logs have the tell-tale black streaks. I'm sure you already knew this.

Not necessarily. I've found that to be true, but only part of the time.

This log was completely free of nails. I have better examples but didn't take pictures of them.
