Been thinking of making some changes in office. Have any of you tried Windows 7 out or worked with it.

What about the new Microsoft Offce versions?

About all we use is Microsoft Office, Quickbooks Pro and Arbor Gold for software, pretty basic I guess from that standpoint.

LOL!

This thread belongs in the Arborist 101 forum.

:hmm3grin2orange:

Seriously doubt anybody in there would have Office or Arbor Gold.. or even an office with somebody on phone and computer !!

We already have that.. just wondering if it is worth the $ to do an upgrade.. have some cash at year end and wondering if it makes sense to pull trigger on office stuff.

Whats Arbor gold ? Sounds like something cool and I am sure I need it ! :computer:

Well debate is on for that one .. software which tracks your customers, does your quotes/proposals, integrates with Quickbooks, etc.

Is it the best? Well that is where the debate begins.. likely not the cheapest.

It is what we have, and it works.. so not interested in looking elsewhere.. but can not tell you if it is the best. Nor, quite frankly, can I even tell you if it was worth the investment. Sure makes things easier.. saves some time.. but I am not sure if we really are big enough to make it a solid business case from a cost wise perspective. I was convinced it would be good.. so bought it. Can't say it is not good.. very good.. but not sure if it saves me money.. and I am quite sure it does not make me more. I am not making any more major purchases (at least for a while) that I can not be convinced it either saves me or makes me at least twice what it costs.

Still out on that one

We have Windows 7 and office 2007. Not sure if you are talking 2007 or 2010.

I have to say they both took some getting used to but over all are not bad.
My biggest problem with windows 7 is that some of the older software I have was not compatible with it and thus forced me to upgrade windows 7 Ultimate!!
They kind of jack you around by not really making that known until you have it and go to install stuff from XP and you find out they no longer work in 7.
Soo, your option is to upgrade (for another 100) to windows 7 with XP mode and run XP in a virtual environment. It's all kind of a pain but I was:blob2: stuck with it since I bought the puter new with windows 7 on it. Oh and that's another thing, you best have a newer puter to run it like I am. 1ghz or better processor.
In all, if you are upgrading office computer and it comes this 7 then by all means upgrade to 7 ultimate but just to upgrade XP for the heck of it? :chainsawguy:
Naaa:blob2:

Not sure which it was, likely would get 2010 (if that is current version then suspect that is what they would put on).

Hmm.. let me ask then before I jump here. They were talking Windows 7 Professional I think as the version. Thanks.. gives me some questions to ask at least.

N/p
If you are having some one install it, just bring a list of the programs you are running and they can prolly look em up to see if they are compatible. I do beleive PRO edition can also run in XP mode but it's a seperate download and I am sure another 100 bucks...lol

I get asked this question once or twice a week since about mid year on every year. The best answer to this question is your current configuration working for what you need? Do you fell you need more speed then you currently have? It's all ways nice to have the most update hardware and software, but in the end, it if meets your needs then keep what you have.

Remember if your hardware (CPU, Memory...) are old, they might be not able to be upgraded to Win 7 and/or Office 10. If that is the case there is a whole new set of questions you need to be asking. For example what kind of CPU do you need, how much memory do I need, what about hard disk space and so on.

If might not be the fastest system on the block, but it gets the job done.

Some good points to ponder. Thanks.
