When I worked underground utility construction, we had to keep our stuff off the roads. If we impeded traffic, we had to use flaggers. We were using dozers and backhoes w/ cable and wire all over the place. I was taught that beacause we worked near or on the road, we did not own the road. Which meant to stay out of the way whenever possible. Do not use the roadway as a crutch to do work easier.
I try to keep up with that attitude while we do tree work. Safety is always an issue for me also...I wish cars would slow down.
If every driver had to stand on the side of the road in a work zone, maybe then they would see how dangerous it is. Maybe they would slow...

dbeck, awesome post! I like the part about just because "we worked near or on the road, we did not own the road."

And come to think of it, I always drive even slower when going by road-work crews ever since I started doing tree work! And I never complain about the guys who are just standing there holding up a shovel...I see at work that that stuff just happens sometimes!

Cones

In tassie( and OZ) they have seperate Little companies that specalise in traffic control with their own insur. and everything..useful on big jobs if priced in.
I am also not advese to putting the truck half on the nature strip, where appropiate,to minimise traffic disturbance.

Warning. If "special brownies" contain hunger inducing (and mind altering) substances and their is no other delicious food available a dangerous cycle could be created. Participants in such cycle could become comatose.
Please don't take this to mean that I condone the use of such additives just someone speaking from long time past expirence.
