I cut down a softwood tree that had purple heartwood throughout the entire tree.
I've been trying to figure out what it is online but have no idea. It was in a swampy area in New England.
I figured it would be easy with that distinctive center but it hasnt been. Any ideas? It was not pine, or a blue spruce.

It could be a Hemlock. I worked at a sawmill in Nova Scotia many years ago and the Hemlock lumber came out kind of purplish. Are the needles of it flat, dark green and have white undersides?
