im new to this board but not new to firewood cuting just wondering what people are charging for firewood in there neck of the woods here in redding ca a cord of dry oak delivered goes for $ 225 and and dry soft wood $160

Locals selling are averaging around 200 per cord delivered unstacked. However a couple of out of town ******* come in occasionally and drive the market price down by giving wood away stacked cord for 150.

Holy Crap. Around here good split hardwood is only going for about 70-80$ tops. How and the hel# are you getting that much for it.

Price seems to boil down to the size of the customer base and the availability of wood.
In my area, not only is there a huge customer base, but not just anybody can go out and cut their own wood because 95% of the property is privately owned and only 10% of the area is forested. Plus with rising fuel costs, firewwod has almost doubled in price within 5 years.

My brother told me I was crazy for selling wood in SW Michigan for $180 delviverd. In Northern Michigan, the adds are for $50 - $60 per "cord". What they do not tell you is the "cord" is a face cord.

stupid question... how much exactly is a cord....dont use the term over here, well i dont.

jamie

Supply/Demand

I am getting $200 dollars cord delivered within 5 miles $2 mile after that, not stacked, and that is Mixed hard and soft but mainly hard. All oak, then get out your checkbook, cause around here you can't find it. All corn and little timber.

pick up

i think we fill the back of the pickup for not alot, less than you stephen..... its mixed, wet and a bit of a sideline, we go by volume not weight, its a job for when the weather is too crap to really go outside, instead we get to stand in the rain / sleet and get cold and wet.

each summer i think, i'll work loadsa weekends and make a jumbo pile and that will do him (the boss) all year, each summer i change my mind

8x4x4=128 cu ft. It seems that alot of buyers in our area have no idea what an actual cord is. And I think some of the sellers don't either! One will tell you that a cord is about a regular pickup truck load, while another will tell you that a pickup truck load is about a half cord.

Many advertise a cord, but then deliver the equivalent of a face cord. I think that is where alot of the buyers get confused, as many of them have no idea. Same here in southern Indiana as what smithm said above.

A cord is indeed 8x4x4 or any dimensions that will get you 128cu/ft. A face cord is half of that, so is a rick..64cu/ft. The difference between the two is that a face cords logs should be 4' wide when placed in rows. Like 2 rows of 24" logs, 3 rows of 16" logs or 4 rows of 12" logs.
