Well it's been a few months since I've posted anything, guess it doesn't get cold enough in Oklahoma for folks to buy firewood year round. Anyway I landed a side job clearing quite a few elm trees from a field. Where I'm working at is in a very very wealthy nieghborhood, and an older gentleman hollered at me to see how much it would cost to cut a dead limb out of a tree. The dead limb is 25' up and is stuck in three different trees. I told the old man it would probably cost him around $50 for me to cut it out and haul it off. The man looked right at me and said (hell ain't no way I'm paying that). I told the man it may be a little less if it comes right down with no problems, but if it fights me it won't cost anymore than $50. He said (well I don't know about that), and that he's going to look into it. After this I don't care an ounce to do this small job. I was just curious as to my quote.

Did I quote the man to high, or did I do pretty good?

Thanks in advance guys, and if this is in the wrong forum feel free to move to the correct thread. Thanks again.

Agreed man, I told him it wasn't that it's hard work, but that I have to climb an extension ladder with a running chainsaw. Oh and I really don't know how the limb will fall, and I really don't want a limb to knock my ladder over, especially with me on it.

The guy sounds like he's a tightass with his money. I think I'd pass on that job anyways. $50 bucks and it's locked into 3 other trees? He probably wants you to lower it by hand too so his lawn doesn't get any divots. Plus you're going to attempt the removal by ladder, and we always know how those scenarios end up

lol ? let's see? = ladder work is only as smart or dumb as the person performing the task ... just like any other tool, being its human or other! lol

Not a good idea at all.

Yeah, that's true enough. I shouldn't have generalized. But it just seems like every video I've ever seen on youtube that involves chainsaws and ladders ends bad. Really bad. Some of these guys should have parachutes with the distance and height they get thrown from :omg:

Without exception, every time I have been hurt on a ladder I "knew what I was doing" :) That includes the time I stepped off it onto the roof I was shingling. Roof had a frost coating.

It's not quite as bad as the video above its actually pretty easy. The limb is only about 3 or 4 inch at its biggest and maybe 10' long. Anyway he had a guy come out and get it down while I was across the street working, I guess he wanted to rub it in my face or something. Funny thing, the guy who came to cut it out and haul it off is a guy I went to school with and he told me how much he charged. $125!!!! Guess the old man didn't want to admit i was right.
