Maple?

What kind of maple was it? Silver, maybe a red? Branch structure doesnt really look like a maple mor elike a cottonwood or something.

That's what I was thinking... cottonweed. Never seen a maple with that kind of bark before, and the branch structure is also not typical of a maple.

Took a good size maple down. It was 45"across. Here are te pics. Bash away:greenchainsaw:

Thanks for the Pics, STLfirewood

Hey STL, if you don't mind me asking ...

I guess the root system was playing havoc on the foundation

neat-o

Nice pics, i noticed some leaves hanging on, almost want to say white oak. When i was looking at the pics in order i was wondering why you didn't rig over building first. Then i realize you got everything out of the way for more good productivity. nice job! Was there spare change for a climbing helmet after the pay day :)

It is a silver maple. It was topped some years ago. It does have a weird bark structure for a maple. The tree actually grew wih a half twist towards the top. It was a really strange maple. Everything went smooth. 2 guys had about 2 days in it. We didn;t hit it super hard. I had been sick he few days before the job. I did a lot of clean up other then the tree. The back yard was a mess. I also cleaned betweened the houses. and cut some small tree that were stuck in the chain link fence. Easy stuff but time consuming. I billed $1400 for the job. It was a cheaper bid but I am slow right now.

Higher tie woulda done more then gaffs.

You need a GRCS for those jobs. That and 2 blocks make things go so much smoother (though some pics look like there could be blocks involved, on looks like a loopie taile poking out)

This whole limb could come out in one cut with the GRCS. It might need a but tie, but I think it would hinge right over to the left rig point. At least that is what I see from my chair in MKE/WI.

PM me with if you have any questions.

yah a much higher TIP wouldve made your movement much easier all around in that tree.

in a tree like that i go to the highest/safest/best working TIP i can find and go from there.

in the second pic whats the line going through 2 crotches?

and also to comment on the rign even though you might have a target (house) under the work sometimes its easier to go bigger.

i have never used a GRCS so i cant speak for them.

now saying that i still wouldve went big with alot of that wood.

was your rope guya vet of tree work? telln ya a good rope guy is a wonderful thing.

anyway good stuff. get a helmet.

The rope through the 2 crotches is the line used for lowering the branches. I think it was king of hard to go big with a lot of the stuff. The electric line you see is about 5ft from the tree. There was also a power line going from the garage to the house. Made it kind of tight. I agree I like to take things big if I can.

Also that is not me climbing. I'm not a climber I know my limits and climbing exceeds them. If you see the way thing are done in the pic that was all up to the climber. I let him do things the way he wants and just follow his order. The rope guy has been around a while but I'm not sure he would be considered a vet.

Thanks for the replies

I learnt me some things

Thanks for the blow by blow. I am studying this as a part time income maker when things are slow in the iron world. I definitely need to get some boots for the job first off.

i'll take a bunch of pics today at my saturday work. you guys can feel free to climb all over it and get as critical as you'd like. i'd welcome it.

supposedly its a couple trees over the pool area. the homeowner couldnt be talked into a nice prune and wants them out.
i havent seen the job yet so i dont know what the work is going to entail but i am hoping that there will be some technical climb to it so i get some good pics.
i didnt mean to derail this thread but be on the lookout later for some of my work pics.

someone tell oldphart i got pics on the way.
