I put a little gasket maker(Hi temp) between the carb and intake. Will have a closer look though.

I bought a 46cc a while back that needed a fuel line but after I got it changed it would only run wide open. Even closing the choke didn't slow it down much. I box it up to play with later when I get a few other projects finished. http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/229428.htm
I'm pretty sure I have an air leak. I don't understand what your going to learn by blowing it up.

Crank seals are really easy and cheap on these clamshell Poulans.

I totally love this story.

Man meets saw. Man thinks saw is a piece of crap. Regardless of "crap" designation, man spends next several days (weeks?) sourcing parts and fixing saw. Man spends more than double the saws worth getting it to run - just for the challenge.

I have a BUNCH of saws because this same story played itself out in my garage about a dozen times.

I am there on a buddies 42cc Craftsman. Swapped a coil and got spark, new lines, new carb, still has a air leak(guess) will not take throttle. Cylinder comes off tonight..... It will not win....whatever it takes:bang: It has become a jigsaw puzzle I will finish:dunno:

Now this is a guy I can like. No amount of money (well, almost) or time will stop him from completing this insane task. Sounds JUST like me. I'm eyeing a little Textron Homelite XL on CL just because it's cheap and is advertised as "doesn't run". Do I NEED another saw? NOPE!

"Yes dear, I know the honey-do list is long. Just a few more minutes (or dollars) and this will be running"

I have a similar issue. Hard to start but finally does can't tune at all. Spray starting fluid around intake and saw dies immediately. Resealed intake and carb to no avail. Switched to another carb and same issue. Resealed crank seals thinking maybe that was it, nope! Back apart for more diagnosis, I'm missing something just haven't pinpointed it yet.

Welcome aboard, air leaks can be a mother to track down. Do a vacuum check to locate the problem, and if that doesn't work use about 3 psi of air to narrow it down. Should hold vac for 10 min or so.

I think it's an intake leaking. They are a two piece part with internal seals and gaskets but I think the gasket between the cylinder and intake is where it failed. Will find out today . Resealed it yesterday. Thanks for the info.
