Hey I just found out I was a member here at some point.lol anyways. I picked up this 288xp for 175.00 and it runs. Cuts like crap but the bar and chain is shot. And is missing most all the safety items, like chain brake, chain catcher, working kill switch. Haven't checked compression. I did find a score on the piston on the exhaust side. So what do you guys think run it till it dies or rebuild? I did order all the parts to make it safe to use though including bar and clutch, and got the kill switch working. This is my first husky and pro saw and above 60 cc. Oh it does have a KS cylinder too. Just wanted to run it by the "experts" on my find.

Its hard to tell from those pictures how bad that score mark is. But a 2 stroke engine will have some small scuffs and scrapes on them after years of use. Even a brand new rebuild ran for 5 minutes will have some small sand like scratches.

Yeah tough to tell exactly could be carbon scratch too. This saw is gonna be a nickle and dime saw, every place you look it's missing a screw, wrong nut. That's ok I got most very thing ordered now I think, thats what I said 3 eBay orders ago. It does have the heated handle option too but I'm not going to focus on that now parts seem pretty expensive and or non existent too for that option.

Oh I found it's missing the heat deflector between the muffler and cylinder. Is that absolutely necessary on these saws? Obviously been ran without one for some time.

Quick question how I the #%$$ do I get those little rope fibers unstuck from the piston and cylinder on the exhaust Port? I pulled the cylinder bolts but cylinder is still stuck to piston via rope.
