OK all you OWB veterans, Do you or do you not open up the door for a while every couple weeks to burn the creosote out of your firebox and stack? I know a CB owner who has done this for 10 years. Anyone else here do that or solve the build-up issues in other ways. I have been burning in a new 5036 for about two weeks and couldn't be more thrilled. I see some buildup on the baffles at the top of the box. Will this solve itself somewhat when the unit cycles more in colder weather? (I do NOT have a fan in my CB). I have been putting the Ashtrol in every day as recommended by my dealer. Thanks Gents.

never clean mine out, just burns itself off, i do scrape the door, if any gets around the seal.

The only cleaning I do on my 5648 is clean the ashes out a couple of times a year during the burning season. In the spring I clean it good and cap the stack.

I leave the door open for a little while to get it good and hot but that's about it.

Let the water temp drop and fill it full of cardbourd. That should burn most of it off. At least till the weather gets cold. I don't leave the door open at all.

I've loaded mine up with super dry pallet boards and left the door cracked for a few in the past, but as I've found it's not necessary, the creosote will disappear when the weather gets colder! Set it and forget it!
