Was on a job today, nothing big. Using my 21' Silky, I toped a removal and as the top fell, the saw went with it. Wasn't much of a limb but it bent one section of the saw, second from the bottom. Does anyone know where to buy the a replacement for the damaged section? Nothing found online through Silkystore.com or Sherrills or Wesspur or Baileys. Ever happen to anyone out there?

yup; bent mine twice now. the first time i verrrrrry gradually bent it back after warming it up, and it slid smoothly.

then later i bent another section and tried to straighten it while still in the heat of the moment :blob2: and it kinked. now i have a shorter saw--sections are like $60++ on the website, so I just bought a new hayauchi.

if yours is not kinked, try a torch and a rubber mallet; and patience.

both times mine screwed up it was strictly operator failure--foreseeable and avoidable. The tool can do so much, it's too easy to overuse it.

Silky store does have parts, but they are not all in stock. You might contact them to ask when they will have them available (this is a link to Hayate parts - see "parts" on the top menu if you have a different one).

I'd also be willing to bet that if you called Sherrill, they'll get what you need even if there is no part number for it on their website. They are good like that.

I crushed the bottom end of mine when it was closed. Too expensive to buy all of the new poles. I now have a short one (that fits nicely behind the back seat of truck, and is MUCH easier to move around when climbing) and a new one that I bought pretty quick after bending it - this is a tool that earns its keep.

When I needed a new section I contacted Silky through their sponsors link here on the site, I had my new section at no cost delivered in a week...overseas!

I got my Hayauchi stuck way up in a tree, had to leave it up there for a day till I got to that side...looked pretty up there...almost fully extended
No damage when it came out luckily.

My 21' Hyauchi has a kink in the 3rd section. I got it bent back for the most part and it will open and close but takes a little muscle to do so. I can't believe it isn't bent more than just in the one section. That Silky has taken a beating and has been worth every cent.

I checked with both Silky and Sherill. A replacement section runs about $70.

Not worth it to me when you can buy a new saw for $200. Just take out the bad section on the bent saw and use it as a shorter backup for the new saw.

Yup, exactly what I did. Bermie musta used her feminine wiles to squeeze a new one out of them.

I put a dent in mine the other day. Enough that it wouldn't slide back together. Drilled a small hole in the opposite side and used a punch to tap out the dent. :agree2: the cost of the replacement section is steep compared to just buying a new saw.
