I've got a CS-590 that I got for pretty cheap. Looking for chain recommendations. I cut a small amount for firewood during the winter and while camping. Looking at the Oregon PowerCut 72LPX070G chain right now, any better options?

72LGX070G. A bit better than the LPX series IMO. What kind of firewood do you cut? Soft or hardwood? You might be better off with 72DPX which stays sharper in dirty and hardwood, though it is a tad slower in cutting, but not usually noticeable.

Probably 75% pine, 25% oak

The LGX chain is discontinued (but probably still widely available) - replaced by the LPX. The LPX chain came stock on my CS-590. Both are full chisel chains with a round grind. The DPX chain is a semi-chisel chain and not listed for this saw, but I cannot see any reason why it would not also be a good choice, especially if you have any problem with your LPX chain getting dull a little too quickly.

Another option that would probably be just fine for your limited use is the 72V chain (Advance Cut family with more low kickback features and supposedly smoother). The older designation for this chain is D70 - perhaps you can find those cheaper than current LGX or DPX? But they are all about the same price right now on Amazon. When I first bought my 590 (and when I was still pretty chain-stupid), I ordered a spare chain to go with it, and I got the D70. I have never even mounted that chain, but now that I know more, I really wish I had bought a Power Cut instead. Oregon does not really make it easy for the consumer to make an intelligent choice! Oh well, I guess it is still a good backup option in case I have to change chains in the middle of a job . . .

Keep in mind if you buy loops of whatever
The echos are 70dl for a 20
Not 72 dl like everyone else.
That is exactly right . . .

But if you buy Oregon chain, also make sure you are aware how their current product numbers work. In the number 72LPX070CQ, that 72 has nothing to do with the number of drive links - it designates a .050 gauge 3/8" chain (Oregon calls that the "Dealer Part Number"); however, the exact same chain is also sold as an E70 (their "Retail Chain Code" sold in hardware stores and home centers), where the E means 72LPX, and the 70 IS the number of drive links!

lm looking at the lpx/lgx 70dl chains for my CS-590 as well..

Question for sime of you guys more experienced, is there currently a high quality 20" d176 (echo) mount bar on the market with 72dl??

Everyone talks about upgrading the cs590 bars to a 72dl, but for the life of me I can't find one.. (Assuming no adapter)

On the d176 mount
And ran 70 dl stihl rs i had my stihl dealer

A great combo on my 590 ran it for over five year's.
A good quality inexpensive chain I've been running is the upstart chain

Been running it two year's on my ported 372s

You need an adapter to run a 72dl bar on the echo. I did it for mine. @fordf150 can help you out.

Archer makes a D176 Mount bar that runs 72dl and I think TsuMura May also.

Dahmer, you using that bar with your cs590?

The description states:
027FV4 20" 3/8 .050 72DL This is not a universal D176 mount like Oregon bars use. It oils thru the bar adjuster hole only

Curious how it oils? Thanks!

Glad you pointed that out. I was going to order it for a 670. I’ll probably just call Nate, no sense screwing up on my own. Thanks.
