Ok, I'm fairly new to this site and in my searching around I have not seen a post concerning my following question. Just wanted to hear your thoughts.

I'm not sure if this is a regional thing, but I have heard numerous times from alot of people in the know (loggers, chainsaw shops, etc) that I need to run gasoline without ethanol added to the mixture in all my small engines. Where I'm from the gas stations that have a dedicated no ethanol pump are beginning to get scarce. So my questions is what grade gas do you guys run and is the ethanol a concern? If so is there a preventative maintenance that I can do for my 281 xp husky (and other small engines) if/ when I am forced to use ethanol?

I have a pretty good understanding on the oil:gas ratio and currently run a 40:1 with my carb set a little on the rich side for my CSM.

Thanks

hi there, here in new hampshire it seems all gas stations have 10% ethanol it doesn't seem to really effect my saw at all.i run 93 octane only but i never buy more than 2 gallons at a time that way i never really store my gas for more than a week or so. and i use stihl ultra synthetic mix in the premade mixxers.i figure for what im asking my saw to do when milling i could at least give it 93 octane haha.anyhow hope this helps

high test from a high turnover pump when I can't get straight gas.
and is the ethanol a concern?
Yes, big time.

Use FRESH (< a week old) fuel, mix with Stab-il, don't leave it in a tank to go bad. Buy Seafoam or similar. Read http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/176083.htm

The official word from Stihl, if I remember correctly, is their saws can tolerate up to 15% ethanol.
I don't worry about the ethanol at all but I do buy Stihl oil to mix my fuel and add Seafoam in the winter. Generally I saw through 10 - 15 gallons of Regular grade mixed fuel per month.
