I rank that in the Old Wives Tales category. There is no way for a tree to transport sand.

I have not had any experience with "sparks" from Locust when burning. I have had it with Mulberry no matter how seasoned it was.

I've seen sparks come off chains in dead hedge limbs...no way there are sand grains in the upper limbs.

Locust is great firewood and splits easily, almost as much as straight grained red oak.

Locust must some what different in different areas. I've seen sparks come from saw chains when sawing it up and its pretty darn hard to bust.

I agree I highly doubt sand worked its way that far up.

I dono, I cut a big maple in our yard and wondered why my chain got dull all of the sudden. Come to find out, it had some concrete work it's way up.
