I have not had any experience with "sparks" from Locust when burning. I have had it with Mulberry no matter how seasoned it was.I rank that in the Old Wives Tales category. There is no way for a tree to transport sand.

I've seen sparks come off chains in dead hedge limbs...no way there are sand grains in the upper limbs.
I agree I highly doubt sand worked its way that far up.
I gotcha.Sand won't work its way up at all - it is an old wives tale.
