Do you think it will work or a good idea?
Have a 60' bucket truck with 11' chipper box and want to open the roof so a loader can dump topsoil or some times gravel at the supply yards.
Thanks

I would imagine that the roof is a good part of the integrity of the bed. If you cut it off without putting some kind or reinforcement back in the sides will probably be pretty floppy.

yes I know
I would cut, a maybe, a five foot wide and 7 foot long but leave ,maybe two ribs, of maybe 3" material than maybe an angle iron so the material loading in would not bend it down

Leave the box as it is. No way do you want to be dropping chunks of wood into the bed with a loader. It's not built for it and besides....it's more useful as a chipper box. You can always load large wood into it from the rear.

depends on the value of the truck and how much money you will make if you do cut the top off.

Thanks for the reply
I was biding on a $16,000 2000 GMC 7500 bucket/chipper but lost
I was thinking of the 1985 International 1700 Diesel, high miles, needs work, for the less $ and no big loss to open the roof for maybe four times a year dropping the topsoil.
These bad times mean equipment has to keep busy
580 backhoe has to move homeowners stumps that used to clear developments.
Do you think the bucket truck will do OK pulling the 9 Ton trailer with the Case 580 on it?

you`ll be lucky if the truck you are speaking of will be able to haul itself with a chipper & load. as for your question............NO!
