I pruned back a large oak tree in my front yard to keep branches from the road, mostly smaller limbs that I cut back to the trunk branch collar. I had one larger limb that had grown into the road and another tree that I started to cut back. I am left now with a Y stub, and I am not sure the best course of action with it. The limb was larger and now I am thinking I made a mistake cutting it back to far to being with. Looking for some advise of how to salvage the situation, if just cutting it back to the collar is still the best course of action. Based on what I read I don't think there is a way to leave a stump and have it heal properly...
