While cutting Black Oak firewood from winter storm blow downs on my friend place, I found one tree that had two burls on two different limbs. These burls are really hard to find and finding two from the same tree was amazing. I have not milled them yet and won't for awhile, but I just had to show you all how big these burls are. And then there is the pile of firewood we cut, lots of sweat equity there...

These burls are about 22-24" across.

Hard to see, but burl visible everywhere.

My friends Simon and Gary behind the large pile of Black Oak firewood. We cut this all in one day starting at 7am and finishing up at 5pm. We used my trailer behind my 80 CJ5 Jeep to get to where the big tree limbs had fallen. This method works very well for us.

This is Simon's Husky He just got off EBay for $240. It worked real well for firewood cutting and also on the mini-mill I built him.

Scott,

Believe it or not, this place does have a real gold mine on it established in the 1860's. Us retired guys have the time to go play like this for a few days and we always have smiles on our faces.

looks like a fun day in the woods! got any plans for the burls?

I plan to mill the burls, but I need to borrow my friends Gandberg mill I can mount a smaller chainsaw on. My mill is just too big for milling these pieces easily. I don't want to waste any of this wood if possible. I plan to slab one of the burls and then cut wedges from the other piece for possible bowl turning.
