Do any of yawl cut dry logs?

Some of the logs in my turning wood pile are no longer wet.

What should be done to prevent the chain, bar, & all saw components from getting too hot when cutting dry wood? Just need to know the best method of sawing dry logs, in order to cause any damage to the saw? Thanks,
WT

They probably won't be "too" dry to give the chainsaw trouble, proviso your oiler is up to snuff. I try and slab out my logs and seal them(getting rid of the pith in the process) as soon as I get them. Then I stack up the slabs and let them dry.

WT, What trimmed said about the oiler. Turn it all the way up.
If you can, use semi chisel, full comp chain and keep it sharp. And before you get started, you may want to check the oiler hole in the bar and make sure it's clean as well as the bar groove. Some woods are much tougher than others. What type of saw and wood are we talking about here? John

If your saw oiler is adjustable, turn it up. Make sure your chain is sharp and sharpen often. Don't lean on the saw. Keep rakers fairly high.

I don't know why they make the oil adjustable. Who really turns back the oiler???

When I run outta gas, I like a 1/4" of oil left in the reservor.

The only time the oil reservoir is empty on the saws I use is when I don't cap it properly and it ends up on my crotch. Seems to be a quarter left most times though.

dry wood

trimmed: That's what I'm gonna start doing, slab & seal when I gettum.

lucky: oiler is up all the way. Saw is Husky 350, 20" bar, and all hard woods.

Crofter: Good tips, thanks.

MasterBlaster: Maybe they think you'll turn down the oil if changing bars.

matthias: it's good to keep the crotch lubed.

caryr: Giving it a break is another good tip, Thanks.

Good tips, thus far, Thanks!

I think WT's question is valid. Cutting dry wood is tougher on the saw and the above suggestions will surely help.

Squirrel, have you ever cut some well seasoned live oak or eucalyptus? That would make Taz seem like Winnie the Pooh.

Well said Tony!!!LMFAO:laugh:   Thats the best statement that I have read on this site in about a year!
