Hello all! I am new to the forum so I hope this ends up in the right spot. I picked this forum because it seemed to have the most helpful advice on older saws. So here is the situation:
When I was a kid I vividly recall Dad using this loud ugly red saw that he loved. About 15 years ago it quit oiling the chain and he couldn't fine parts locally. So he retired it, never really finding a saw that he liked as much. We cut primarily for firewood purposes, but we supply several fireplaces through the winter so we do cut a lot of firewood. Anyway, the other day I'm cleaning out under a workbench and what do you know, I find the ugly red saw. I would like to get it running again, partially as a gift to Dad and also because it would be nice to have a bigger saw around sometimes. Currently Dad runs a Husky 385xp and I use a Stihl ms391.
So I guess what I'm looking for is advice about where to start with the oiler problem as well as general advice and precautions to take before trying to start a saw that's been sitting under a bench for many a year. Thanks in advance for you thoughts!
Here she is exactly as I found her.
