Do as Scott says, it's lean on the idle circut when you have to feather the throttlle to get it to rev up. Thanks EPA. Steve

Thanks guys, I was afraid to **** with those caps, do they just pull straight off?

I will richen the low end today and see if that helps. Also, how can I check to see if it is going on high idle with the throttle? The instructions state to squeeze it once and then it will hold open somewhat? I dont get it and have not noticed anything in the throttle actually doing anything when I try this.

I take it you mean the high idle, hold the top part of the throttle down and lift the underside part. you should hear/feel a small click, and when you release both the under handle trigger will stay a little bit up.

hope this helps.. had trouble with mine first few starts, then once got the hang of it, very easy.

Typically when I start a saw with a choke I engage the choke fully and once it kicks a little I back the choke off about half way then try it again. Often I will have to engage the throttle part way until started. Basic stuff. I guess you have tried all that though.

Brad, that is SOP for most 2 strokes. But the Dolmar/Makita products seem to be a little finnicky about starting until you learn the trick.

Hold the throttle open when you pull the choke out on some of my saws, some go to high idle when you pull the choke without touching the throttle. You might be able to buy a limiter cap remover at your dealer. I just use a thread a screw in the small hole in the cap, turn it counterclockwise untill the tab is lined up with the slot in the carb and pull. Steve

When I got my blue 111i it took me a while to figure out how to start it without flooding. It doesn't have a choke but an injector. At first I was partially setting the throttle and it flooded every time. I did that about 3 times total until I got the proper technique down. All I need to do with this saw is pull out the injector switch, throttle at idle setting and and pull the starter once. If I'm fast enough to disengage the injector it stays started but more often than than not, I will have to disengage the injector after the first pull and crank it once or twice more and it idles on.
Although this saw is new and probably not yet fully broken in, it is about a 1996 vintage saw. I'd like to have a ps-401. I hear that they are pretty good little saws.

Did you ever read the user manual?????:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I have the 401 and the 540. I had to remove the limiter caps on both of them to get them to run right. Now I turn on the choke, takes one to two pulls to pop, then one or two pulls w/choke off and they are idleing. And I must add, I love my little 401....awesome cuttin little saw!

Thanks for the tips, I will get a better plug and pop the caps off. One thing tho, even on the first day I could not even find a trace of a high idle setting or throttle position hold. The manual states to squeeze it one time, set choke and viola... NOT. I will pursue success with these many tips.

Thanks!
Alex

Half throttle lock is EASY..... depress safety trigger pull throttle open with you thumb depress lock button fully that is ahead of safety trigger. VIOLA you have half throttle position. IF YOU HAVE BEEN NOT USING THIS that explains your HARD STARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

...

Ok, turns out I may be an idiot after all?
The instructions did not point out that button, and to be honest even after you pointed it out it took a bit of wrestling to get it to move and latch. The instructions make out like if you cover the safety and pull halfway up on the throttle it will self lock until you squeeze the throttle again?

Thank you Scott.

I hope everyone here does not think me to be the idiot that I may appear from this incident, I still have all my appendiges..for now.
