Here they come again. I dragged three into the house after working eight hours yesterday outdoors cutting and hauling logs. These things are the most useless pest ever invented. 'Tis the season for them, so be on the lookout. I used deet spray and it failed miserably. Even the ants chowed down on my legs, feet, and about every place else. We even have beetles around here that bite, and the spiders are always hungry.

Here's a tick before -- after Pic.

That is a really good photo!

If you get bit, mark it on the calendar. It can take weeks to feel sick from a tick bit, and then the connection can be easily missed. It may be an old wives tale for all I know, but I do it just the same.
Then I noticed that there is a black bulldog ant that can be treacherous and in rare occasions fatal. Usually found in Australia, but it resembles the carpenter ant. Most ant bites take longer to heal than skeeter bites. I think I get one of these for every round log that I bring in for splitting. Their mandibles can go right through thick socks and even jeans. Insect repellents seem to mean nothing to them.

Stay away from them damn things.

That's the thing, they find you. I drop my wood cutting cloths at the door and put them directly in the washer, and me in the shower. The dog and cats stay outside! Period!

Years ago I took my daughter to the animal shelter to get a kitten. A woman assisted her in getting one of the kittens out and she was holding it. Another woman said I needed to do some paper work and asking me if it was going to be an indoor, or an indoor/out door kitten. I said, 'Outdoor.' She then repeated, it had to be indoor or indoor/out door, and can not be an 'outdoor' cat.
I must have given her a funny look, because she then suggested that I could lie about it.
I told Emma not to get too attached, cause were leaving without one.
How stupid is that? They would rather kill them.
Our last vet bill was just shy of $500. for three animals. Dog had 'symptoms of ' lyme disease, and was on pills for a month. Eight month dog flea/tick collar,$100+. Just saying, because they are out doors doesn't mean we don't take care of them, keep their shots up, and had them spade. Dog gets checked morning and night for ticks.
Anyway, a few days later my wife, who was a elementary teacher in a near by farm community, soon got several offers of barn kittens. That was eighteen years ago, and we still have her, a small, beautiful calico.

I here you on that stuff the shelters pull. Flea and tick collars work. I rarely see them on my dog now that he wears one . The last one I saw was dead. Lyme is hard to heal, also there are co infections a lot of people are unaware of. You need to treat it different ways than just antibiotics.

One of my good friends saw this thread and sent me a PM. He came down with Lyme disease in CT after being bitten ten years ago. He still has pain in his wrists and hands. He says other insects and animals besides ticks can transmit it.

I'm staying out of the woods for awhile. Too many bugs. Also, I'm going to have the Doc look these bites over.

If you aint allergic go on Doxy in case, he cant tell much from the bites. A bulls-eye is a dead giveaway. Tests are not accurate either. I would start taking immune builders right away. Astragalus.

Been bit 4 times this year - we go on Samento right away when bit, just in case. It's fairly effective against lyme, but it's not just lyme you need to worry about. We've all had lyme several times, but my daughter's been battling babesia for years now and just can't beat it. It's been very hard on her, and you can't believe the cost of Mepron (atovaquone). I so wish we could burn these woods every year like the natives used to do.

Try immune boosters. Like Host Defense. http://www.vitacost.com/fungi-perfe...sive-immune-support-120-vegetarian-capsules-1
