Flathead cat trot lines on the muddy Mississip
They must get big. I have to admit, being a City Slicker mostly I had to look this one up. I like what I saw...."Trotline fishing for catfish is most effective after dark because many species of fish which would rob the trotline hook’s of their bait during day light hours often hide at night while the catfish is a very efficient at feeding in the dark. Darkest also, adds an element of anticipation to this type of fishing which is hard to explain. Trotline fishing is a form of fishing which must be tried to appreciate."

I was pullin your leg a little Devil Dog. They use pretty heavy cord for the mainline, but not quite that big.
35lb. Flatheads aren't rare. I prolly know of a dozen that have been caught on old muddy or one of its tributaries. The state record is 78lbs.

Man.... I am Mr. Douglas from Green Acres. I sure fell for that one. None the less, that fishing sounded like fun.

Saw me a 35lbs flathead in pa . Makes you think twice about swimming in the water

Works ok as clothesline ;-)

Other than that, yeah, pulling cable. For no reason I can understand it only gets used once for that purpose then sold real cheap, so if you're looking there's plenty available at very little cost from telcos etc. Maybe something to do with stretch or twist, no idea...

Thanks. I actually found this in a residential neighborhood and I was looking at returning it to the company where it belongs. Now that I know what its used for It will make my quest easier.

It's used as a general purpose low strength rope and sold at hardwares as such. Difference is reel size. the telco stuff tends to be 600'+ to a reel and sometimes many thousands of feet. Hardware stuff is usually more like 100'. Over here the bigger telcos get it custom made in their colors pretty often which helps identify it as theirs. Blue/white, blue/yellow etc. The orange stuff I've mainly just seen sold as general purpose in hardwares, not sure how it is over there.
