I got confirmation from a client we share that his Care of Trees rep told him Davey has filed a letter of intent to purchase TCOT. I don't know if it will go to finalization without any bumps, but to me this is an earthquake in our industry.

I'm am former TCOT guy, and learned an awful lot about how to think and talk about trees and people from them. They raised the bar on training and safety for the whole industry, I believe. Now Davey I don't know so well. From what I've seen of the quality of their work, they're OK, but are in no wise leaders of the pack. As in the thread of a couple weeks ago where the subject came up, I wonder what the merge of the company cultures will be like. You can get oil and water to mix, but it takes a lot of shaking up. The whole thing may result in a powerhouse of a new sort altogether, with TCOT's top rung quality reshaping Davey's huge presence. I'll be watching.

Agreed. It should be interesting to see what comes out of it. I'm kind of curious to see what'll happen in areas that have both Davey and TCOT offices close together. Davey's on the move in Canada as well. They bought a company here in New Brunswick I guess (still waiting to hear who it was) and some more in Ontario. They've decided to double their Canadian presence within 5 years. There's not much going on in eastern Canada as far as tree work, so it should be interested to see them move into this market. I may end up working for them sooner or later.

I know a long term Hendrickson man, John Hendrickson liked the proposal, took it to the BOD and they are going over it there.

From what it sounds like the cultural issues are the biggest stickler. The words my acquaintance used were "they are trying to see if we will work well together."

We have a Davey's up here, there biding is all over the board.
